Obama attending Vermont Ave. Baptist Church

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama is attending church services at Washington's Vermont Avenue Baptist Church.

Obama is expected to make remarks on the eve of the federal holiday marking the birth of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King.

Obama joined Rev. Cornelius Wheeler at the pulpit as the church choir sang hymns and sat by as the pastor read from the Bible.

Later Sunday, the president is scheduled to fly to Boston in support of the Senate candidacy of Democratic state Attorney General Martha Coakley, who is in a tight race for the seat left vacant by the death of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.
