Donnie Simpson leaving DC radio after 32 years

Donnie Simpson is a staple on and off the radio in the Washington, DC area. On some level he is a Washington Monument; the Ben's Chili Bowl of the radio. We've enjoyed listening to him on WKYS and WPGC and watching him on BET's Video Soul (along with Rachel) for more than 30 years. Based on negotiations, it seems like Donnie's last day may be on Friday, January 29, 2010.

Due to declining ratings, and "internal friction between Simpson and WPGC's management," Simpson decided to break his contract and separate himself from the WPGC.

You may have noticed in the past few months, that Donnie's show has been attempting to reinvent its image; hiring new DJs, and playing more hip hop; even adding an Entertainment News section and other typical morning show Tomfoolery that Donnie Simpson tended to avoid.

While Donnie's morning show was atypical, he had a strong following of DMV and Baltimore dwellers. His voice and fatherly presence will be missed in DC.
