Jackson Mayor to travel to Washington D.C.

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson Mayor Harvey Johnson will travel to Washington D.C. this week to ask for money to upgrade the capital city's water system. Minor water breaks and leaks still have Jackson city crews busy. Some of the city's water lines are more than a century old and most are made of brittle cast iron. The Mayor said he will meet with the congressional delegation and ask for help.

"There's already been a $25 million authorization set aside in federal legislation. If we can access that would be great," said Mayor Johnson.

He leaves Tuesday. This is not an impromptu trip. Mayor Johnson was already scheduled to travel to Washington D.C. for a mayors conference.
