Michelle Obama’s state dinner dress designed by Naeem Khan

Washington DC, Nov 26 (THAINDIAN NEWS) It was the first state dinner of the Obama administration and everything was up to the mark and great. Even the First Lady Michelle Obama’s dress created waves. She wore a floor-length gown with a deep Indian connection. It was a stunning creation in beige color made by Indian craftsmen.

In celebration of the Indian theme at the state dinner hosted by Barack Obama in honor of the Indian PM Manmohan Singh, the First Lady Michelle Obama wore a custom designed gown made by Indian American designer Naeem Khan. He is a well-heeled designer whose clientele includes the likes of Beyonce, Carrie Underwood and even Katherine Heigl.

The other Indian connection with the First Lady’s dress was that she adorned her hands with bangles, which obviously have a deep Indian connection.

The designer Naeem Khan told CNN talk show host Larry King that he wanted something “Indian, chic, simple but very glamorous” for the First Lady. He also said that the dress took 40 craftsmen to make it, and the detailing took 3 weeks. The gown was in beige with silver sequined floral motifs, which looked glamorous as well as simple.

Credit must go to Michelle Obama too, who accessorized her one-of-a-kind silver-sequined gown, adorned with beads that form an abstract floral pattern, with oversized earrings, bangle bracelets and a cream-colored wrap.
