Gary “Digital” Williams Inducted into D.C. Boxing Hall of Fame


Long-time local boxing writer Gary “Digital” Williams, a contributing writer to the Washington Informer, was inducted into the Washington, D.C. Boxing Hall of Fame during a ceremony held on Fri., Nov. 20 at Martin’s Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Md. Williams has chronicled the exploits of boxers in the District, Maryland and Virginia for 24 years through writing, video and the internet. Along with his duties with the Informer, Williams writes articles for Fightnews.com and his own blog, Boxing Along The Beltway.

Also entering the hall is Williams’ long-time broadcast partner, “The Fight Doctor” Jerome Spears. Williams and Spears have performed blow-by-blow coverage of numerous boxing cards in the Washington area for almost 20 years.

The other members of the 2009 DC Boxing Hall of Fame induction class are: Pro Boxers: Andrew Council, Isra Girgrah Wynn, David “Bigfoot” Johnson; Amateur Boxers: Reynard Wright, Kevin Rivers, Sr., George W. Cupp; Outstanding Contributions: Jeff Thames; Kevin Rivers, Jr. won the Balukevich Award as the outstanding amateur boxer for 2009. WI
