Bob Ray sparks responses
Time for Bob Ray Sanders to hush up and exit, stage right. (See: "Cheney’s incessant chatter hurts only the former VP’s credibility," Wednesday) I’ve grown tired of hearing him (and other Democrats) constantly criticize the Bush administration just as he has grown tired of hearing Dick Cheney criticize the current administration.
Just remember, Obama wanted to be president, was elected and now has the responsibility for what happens. Time he owns up and makes good on his promises. I don’t think he has a clue and neither does Bob Ray. I’ll be glad when they both ride off into the sunset!

After reading Sanders’ column about Dick Cheney, I fully agree the former VP should just go hunting and shoot something. But I must protest the comparison of the former VP to a pit bull. The Pitty deserves better than being put in the same category as this venomous lowlife.

Sanders is upset that former Vice President Dick Cheney is "constantly criticizing the current administration." Perhaps the former vice president would "just shut up," as Sanders wishes, if President Obama and his spokespersons would stop blaming every piece of bad news, as well as their administration’s every misstep, on the Bush administration. It’s getting a little tiresome! I for one would like to see a show of hands on that.

My hand is up, way up. A man who had "other priorities" when many Americans were signing up for Vietnam can just keep his mouth shut. I don’t know if he’s anti-intellectual, but he certainly has no use for intelligent people who think before they act. Our president’s intelligence is a second strike against him (the first being his skin color) when fear mongers like Cheney pile on.
Fareed Zakaria may not have been the first to write it, but it was his book where I first saw the comment that terrorism’s effectiveness is measured in the reaction of those terrorized. I’ll bet al Qaeda loves the Dick Cheneys who elevate these acts of misguided religious zealots and get all "wee-weed up" when they raise their heads. I’ll bet al Qaeda hates it that the Obama administration has the intelligence to listen to and consider the views of counterinsurgency experts like Gens. David Petraeus and Stanley McChrystal and their respective sources when making his decisions.

Cason in District 92
Please vote for Jeff Cason to unseat state Rep. Todd Smith, District 92. Smith is a seven-term incumbent who has failed to represent the conservative values of his constituents.
Ratings by watchdog groups reveal that Smith often votes with liberal Democrats rather than support legislation favored by business and conservative taxpayers. Recent scorecards, compiled from legislative voting records, show Smith only had a 73 percent favorable rating with the Texas Association of Business; 66 percent with Texans for Fiscal Responsibility; 64 percent with Heritage Alliance; 57 percent with Americans for Prosperity; and 56 percent with the Texas Eagle Forum.

1) If the axiom "no one cares about your fantasy football team" is true, then how much truer is this axiom: "no one cares about your playoff fantasy football team."
2) Playoff fantasy football is the greatest thing in the world.

Dan Steinberg: Not just not get Rookie of the Year, but finish fourth in the voting, well behind the winner. Different voting pools. Fans and coaches and players aren't involved in the AP's award voting, and media dorks aren't involved in the Pro Bowl voting.
Chris Cooley was talking about the Pro Bowl yesterday in reference to London Fletcher. He said the system is busted, and only coaches should be allowed to vote. I have no idea which pool would have helped Orakpo the most. Anyhow, it's certainly odd, but the larger point is that fans don't really care about the Pro Bowl in terms of watching the game. They just want their guys to get honors. Orakpo will get plenty more honors in his career.

Atlanta: Any possibility Arenas could be forced to halt construction of his pool if he's docked enough pay by a possible suspension? Assuming the pool is still under construction, I mean its probably he's using D.C. workers.

D.C. Chief Lanier Calls 45-Year Homicide Low A “Huge” Success
Washington, D.C., and adjoining Prince George’s County, Md., the region’s most violent jurisdictions, logged their lowest homicide totals in years in 2009, with D.C. hitting a 45-year -low, the Washington Post reports. The number of slayings last year in Washington, once known as the nation’s murder capital, was 140, a 25 percent drop from 2008. Prince George’s recorded 100 killings, the county’s lowest in nine years. ”It’s huge,” said D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier. “We’re making an impact.”
Although final year-end totals have not been tallied, New York expects to post its fewest homicides since 1963. Philadelphia had a 9 percent decrease, and Chicago an 11 percent drop. There is no consensus among police officials about why crime went down in 2009; theories include more focused enforcement, better use of technology, and stepped-up intelligence gathering.

Americans in Pakistan terror probe
Police in Pakistan are trying to determine whether five arrested Americans planned to attack a complex that houses nuclear power facilities.
The young Muslim men from the Washington DC area were picked up in Pakistan earlier this month in a case that has spurred fears that Westerners are travelling there to join militant groups.
Pakistani police and government officials have made a series of escalating and, at times, seemingly contradictory allegations about the men's intentions, while US officials have been far more cautious, though they, too, are looking at charging the men.
A Pakistani government official said that the men had established contact with Taliban commanders and planned to attack sites in Pakistan.
Earlier, local police accused the men of intending to fight in Afghanistan after meeting militant leaders.
The men had a map of Chashma Barrage, a complex that along with nuclear power facilities houses a water reservoir and other structures, said Javed Islam, a senior police official in the Sargodha area of Punjab province.
He stressed the men were not carrying a specific map of any nuclear power plant, but rather the whole of Chashma Barrage.
The detained men had also exchanged emails about the area, Islam said.
"We are also working to retrieve some of the deleted material in their computers," he said.
Pakistan has a nuclear weapons arsenal, but it also has nuclear power plants for civilian purposes.

Wizards: Gilbert Arenas Stored Firearms In Locker
Washington, DC -- (Sports Network) - The Washington Wizards said point guard Gilbert Arenas stored firearms in his locker at the Verizon Center and that the NBA is investigating the matter.
"The Washington Wizards have learned that Gilbert Arenas stored firearms in a locked container in his locker, unloaded and without ammunition," the team said in a statement. "The Wizards organization and Arenas promptly notified the local authorities and the NBA, are cooperating fully with law enforcement during its review of this matter and will have no further comment at this time."
Arenas told the Washington Times that the incident happened around December 10. Arenas said after his new daughter was born he didn't want the guns in his house and around the kids anymore. Arenas told the newspaper he took the guns to his lock box at the Verizon Center and then about a week later turned them over to team security, and told them to hand the weapons over to the police.
The 27-year-old Arenas hasn't faced any criminal charges related to the incident, although action could be coming from the league. According to the Times, the league permits players to have guns, but doesn't allow them to carry weapons on NBA property.
